  7.       'File Dump' is a Windows 3.1 utility which gives you visual,
  8. hard copy and/or archive access to the Hex and Ascii representation
  9. of the bytes contained in a file.

  58. Installing FILEDUMP

  61. You must be running Windows 3.1.
  62. VBRUN300.DLL must be in the Windows\System directory or on the Path.
  63. COMMDLG.DLL  must be in the Windows\System directory or on the Path.
  64. CMDIALOG.VBX must be in the Windows\System directory or on the Path.
  65. FILEDUMP.EXE must be copied into an appropriate Windows directory and
  66.   installed as a 'File', 'New' in an appropriate Windows Group.

  69. Using FILEDUMP
  70. --------------

  72. 1) Start FILEDUMP -- double-click on the FILEDUMP icon.
  73. 2) Select File/Open from the menu.  Process the standard Windows File
  74.    dialog as usual.
  75. 3) The file dump will be formatted into a temporary file, FILEDUMP.TMP,
  76.    in the directory the program is installed in.
  77. 4) The first block of the file dump will be displayed in a scrollable
  78.    List Box.
  79.    A) If the temporary file contains more than one block of data, a
  80.       'Next' command button will appear in the lower right of the window.
  81.       Clicking the 'Next' button will cause the next block to be displayed.
  82.    B) If the temporary file contains more than one block of data and the
  83.       'Next' button has been used, a 'Prev' command button will appear in
  84.       the lower left of the window.
  85.       Clicking the 'Prev' button will cause the prior block to be displayed.
  86. 5) At any time while FILEDUMP is running, you may also:
  87.    A) Re-Size the FILEDUMP form.
  88.    B) Access the FILEDUMP menu:
  89.       1) File Menu
  90.          a) Click the 'Open' choice -- dump a different file.
  91.          b) Click the 'Print' choice -- a Windows 'Print' Dialog window
  92.             will appear.
  93.             1) Adjust the Printer, as needed and click OK -- hard-copy
  94.                will be printed.
  95.             2) Check the 'Print to File' box, in the lower-left corner
  96.                and click OK -- a Windows 'File Dialog', headed
  97.                'FILEDUMP Print to File' will appear.  The default print
  98.                file is 'C:\FILEDUMP.PRN'.
  99.                a) Revise the displayed filename, as desired, then click
  100.                   the 'OK' button -- the listing file will be written.
  101.          c) Click the 'Exit' choice -- FILEDUMP will terminate.
  102.       2) Help Menu
  103.          a) Click the 'About' choice -- a standard 'About' window will
  104.             appear -- click 'OK'.

  112. NOTE: The temporary file and the 'Next' and 'Prev' buttons are devices used
  113.       to overcome the memory limitation of the Visual Basic List Box.  The
  114.       size of the blocks displayed will be controlled by the List Box
  115.       memory limitation.

  119. ----------

  121. The program, FILEDUMP.EXE, is shareware.  It is copyrighted software
  122. offerred on a trial basis.  If you want to continue using it, you are
  123. expected to register it and pay a registration fee of $9.95 per CPU.
  124. Registered users will be notified of future updates and are eligible
  125. for technical support.  Contact information is included in the 'About'
  126. box and constructive suggestions are welcome.
